The Sushi Switch Desk Mat is a 900 × 400mm extended fabric desk mat built around one of the more creative crossover concepts in the keyboard hobby: a mechanical switch reimagined as a piece of nigiri sushi. Centred on a deep charcoal base, the artwork depicts a keyboard switch as a sushi platter — the switch housing styled as a cut of salmon nigiri seated on a tray, labelled すしスイッチ (Sushi Switch) in Japanese. Surrounding it is a richly detailed Japanese aesthetic composition: seigaiha fish-scale patterns in teal and charcoal, stylised cloud motifs in muted grey, scattered dot accents in purple and teal, and vertical スイッチ (switch) kanji text along both sides. It is a desk mat that sits at the intersection of keyboard culture and Japanese visual art, and wears that identity confidently.

The design rewards attention. The central sushi switch illustration is detailed and deliberate — purple switch top, teal base tray, salmon-toned nigiri columns, all rendered with the clean line work and flat colour blocking of contemporary Japanese illustration. The background elements are layered without crowding: the seigaiha patterns fade between light and dark tones across the surface, the cloud clusters frame the central artwork without competing with it, and the kanji text runs vertically along the left and right margins as a subtle, setup-appropriate detail. The overall palette — charcoal, purple, teal, salmon, and grey — is distinct enough to anchor a desk without being loud.

Functionally, the mat delivers the construction expected from a well-made extended pad. The smooth fabric surface provides a consistent, low-resistance glide across the full 900 × 400mm area without drag variation between zones. The non-slip rubber base anchors the mat firmly on wooden and glass desk surfaces, and the stitched perimeter edges protect against fraying and peeling for long-term clean edge retention. At 2mm, the mat sits flat and uniform across the desk with no height variance between keyboard and mouse zones.

For keyboard enthusiasts who want a desk mat with genuine cultural and hobby identity — one that reflects the craft as much as it serves the setup — the Sushi Switch Desk Mat is a considered, visually distinctive choice.

Safety & Care

Your desk mat is built to handle daily use, but a little care goes a long way in keeping the print vivid and the rubber base performing the way it should:

  • Keep Dust Off the Surface — Wipe the mat down regularly with a towel. Dust and debris caught between the mat and your mouse feet can act as a light abrasive over time, affecting glide quality.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight — Prolonged sun exposure can fade the printed artwork and dull the fabric colours over time. Keep the mat out of direct sunlight where possible, especially near windows.
  • Hand Wash Only — Clean with a soft cloth or sponge using lukewarm water and a small amount of mild soap. Avoid alcohol, solvents, or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can damage the print and break down the rubber base. The best method is a damp towel wiped in one direction.
  • Never Machine Wash or Dry — Machine washing and tumble drying can warp the rubber base and cause it to separate from the fabric layer. Always clean by hand and air dry flat.
  • Dry Flat, Away from Heat — After cleaning, lay the mat flat to air dry naturally. Avoid hanging it to dry or using direct heat sources (hair dryers, heaters), as heat can cause the rubber base to curl or warp permanently.
  • Avoid Folding or Rolling Tightly for Storage — If you need to store the mat, lay it flat rather than folding it; a loose roll also works fine. Sharp folds can crease the rubber base permanently, leaving a visible line in the surface.
  • Keep Away from Sharp Objects — Scissors, knives, or sharp-edged accessories can cut or snag the fabric surface. Handle with care when keeping sharp tools on the desk.

With basic care, your mat will keep its smooth glide and vivid print quality for years of daily use.
